Spa day for the three toed box turtle rescue
Просмотров 11210 месяцев назад
Box turtle that just came in. Was dumped at a local pet store and they called me. This typically happens when the owner has them on coco fiber, without any type of way for them to naturally wear down their nails and beak. Without a natural way, they need a trim, not really any different than your dog or bird.

We got in this animal on may 8, so 2 months ago today. She has completely healed, with maybe a month or two before you can only see a few scars. She has eaten, so we are over that hump. (Sometimes the trama of being eaten makes them afraid of the food) If you ever wondered how you can help support the rescue work we do, I can email a QR code with all of our socials. Hi, question: I'm dealing with scale rot currently due to leaving my ball python in her enclosure for several days without holding her since she was shedding. The shed was taking a lot longer than normal so I attempted to raise the humidity by spraying water all over for several days. I over did it, I realize now. And now I'm trying to help my baby. My question is: how do you use the hydrogen peroxide? I read that you do 50/50 solution, but do you let them soak or just put it on them? And I'm assuming you rinse it off after. How long do you leave if on? Also, how do you get the dead scales off? I'm currently doing betadine soaks for approximately 15-20 mins, followed by a reptile care anti microbial spray. Then I pat her down and let her air dry, followed by triple antibiotic ointment before putting her back. Anything else I can do? I feel so bad for my girl and wish I could go back and do it different 🥺😔 I've tried contacting a vet nearby, but they have yet to get back to me about an appointment

    • @jenmai9326
      @jenmai9326 4 месяца назад

      Also, there seems to be substrate underneath her scales, which I'm concerned could cause other issues, which is why I want to know about getting the dead scales off.

    • @ToddTheSnakeMan
      @ToddTheSnakeMan 2 месяца назад

      I don’t use hydrogen peroxide. I use betadine solution. Warm water and betadine, soak for 1/2 hour every 2-3 days

    • @jenmai9326
      @jenmai9326 2 месяца назад

      @@ToddTheSnakeMan thank you. I took her to a vet and got her on injection antibiotics. Sadly, she ended up getting a respiratory infection and couldn't fight it off. She was starting to look so good too, even the vet said so at a follow up appointment. She passed just a few days ago. I did everything I could to help her and I just hope she knew that before she passed. I learned so much tho over the last month. I have a new little guy now and will definitely take what I learned and do better for him

    • @ToddTheSnakeMan
      @ToddTheSnakeMan 2 месяца назад

      @@jenmai9326 did the vet give baytril? Sorry for your loss. Baytril is unfortunately, a 50/50 drug. 1/2 the time kills 1/2 the time heals, but it’s the go to drug for most vets.

      High quality breeders, and a good incubator. Unfortunately, deformities occur no matter what. These animals came from a well known breeder, from good animals, with no genetic disposition for deformities and it still happened to two of six.
